Transmetacarpal Pinning in the Treatment of the Delayed or non-united Metacarpal Fractures

Abstract
Transmetacarpal pinning in the treatment of the delayed or non-united metacarpal fracture with infection and bony defect, is introduced and its clinical application is discussed. Author found that pinning had numerous merits although not without limitation in its application. The method eliminates the necessity of the external support, such as cast or traction apparatus; permits early motion of the digits of the affected and non-affected ones, and minimizes the immobilization of the other joints; keeps the reduced fractures well maintained without its loss; gives good exposure for wound care by the elimination of the external support; hastens wound healing;by rigid fixation.
